Yuppieville by Tony Richards

Frank and Joannie want a better life than the one they currently have in Los Angeles. A quieter life. A safer one, in the sort of place where they can bring up children. So they move out of the city, to the new community of Youngesville, Nevada. Welcome to a brand-new way of life … and death. Welcome to Yuppieville.

“I discovered the existence of this place years ago,” the man was explaining, “by, let’s say, not entirely scientific means. Its inhabitants and I learned to communicate, and then we made a deal. They’d give me what I wanted. Success, recognition, obviously. And I’d reciprocate.”

Frank’s mouth came open. But his throat had tightened, and no sound came out. Tamborough asked the question for him.

“And what was my side of the bargain? What exactly did they want? What do demons always want? Fresh meat, fresh blood, and plenty of it. Brand-new souls to feed on. Innocents.”

He let out a small, dry laugh.

“Not pure of heart exactly. Human beings are never that. But at least trying to be, as you all were, or why else would you come here?”
