Extract from the book :

As Samantha and Henderson watched from the back of the cathedral, two wriggling centipede-like things crawled up over the lip of the pit. Each was a dirty pale green in colour and had a body as thick as a man’s arm. They waved their antennae in the air, quickly located the two humans in their midst and scuttled towards them.

Now was not the time for Henderson to discover that he had a phobia to such things. But it turns out that he did. Which is why he remained rooted to the spot while Samantha turned and ran for to the exit.

The two creatures were almost upon him, tiny droplets of mucky yellow poison standing proud at the tips of their clacking mandibles, when suddenly there were two shots from the door and the creatures were flipped over onto their backs. Further gunfire shattered their bloated bodies and sent the surrounding shattered floor tiles spinning into the air.

Henderson turned to see the shocked face of a military corporal, his arm still outstretched, the hand which held his revolver still shaking. Behind him, Samantha breathed a sigh of relief.

“Lucky he was outside, isn’t it?” she said.

— About The Author

!

John Llewellyn Probert is the author of the book The Faculty of Terror from Gray Friar Press, over forty published short stories, and is a lover of life and the finer things in it. When he is not playing Beethoven sonatas on his piano, dining in exquisitely beautiful company at a fashionable restaurant, or being measured by one of his tailors for the latest item to add to his wardrobe he pens horror stories, the writing of which gives him more joy than any of the above. Just about.

Praise for ‘The Faculty of Terror’...

"I read The Faculty of Terror fast and with much enjoyment. Liked the second, fourth and sixth stories best, especially the last – but they are all trumped by the superb framework story." — Joel Lane

"The book is a genuine pleasure, a treasure trove of entertaining - yet pleasingly nasty - horror stories. I read the entire book with a smile on my face and a chill in my bones. Excellent stuff - any fan of writers like Robert Bloch will love this. It's the type of fun/nasty/literate horror that few people bother to write any more." — Gary McMahon

"This one is fun. John L. Probert writes with some of the same warped humour as the late Robert Bloch. Each of these tales is effective and provokes either shivers of fear, or repulsion - there is some very effective nastiness to be found here." — Sean Parker
