Book News

May 2008 : The Dragons of Manhattan novel by John Grant is back from the printers and available to order now. Not only that but for a limited time I'm offering it at a special reduced price so get it while you can as this first print run is sure to sell out fast!

As I'm feeling in a generous mood I've also reduced the other available SD books. So if you want to pick up a bargain then now is the time to place your orders.

That travelling Welshman Rhys Hughes is back in town and The Postmodern Mariner is currently at the printers. It should be ready to launch at the Welsh SF event in June, so be sure to come along if you can as Rhys will also be doing a talk on "How to Write Impossible Stories".

Don't forget that Rhys' latest novella, The Crystal Cosmos, is now available from PS Publishing. And check out his most recent collection, Less Lonely Planet, published by those crazy dudes over at Humdrumming!

The draft for Kangazang! by Terry Cooper is currently in proof-reading too. Terry will also be appearing at the Welsh SF event next month and giving a talk on fantasy art.

On top of all this I'm also trying to get my head around another short collection, Doorways, edited by Steve Lockley. It's a special event publication we are hoping to get out in time for the Welsh con. More info later.

The Dead Ends anthology has been put back until later in the year unfortunately. Several reasons for this, partly due to the delays with other work and now with recent health issues, it has meant I've reluctantly had to re-schedule some of the books again. We'll get to it eventually though I promise.

One of the stories, Coffree Stains by Steven Deighan, has now been released by the author as a standalone chapbook, which can be purchased from Lulu.

January 2008 : I am currently working through a revised publishing schedule and will announce more definite release dates in due course.

Bull Running for Girls and Different Skins are now confrimed for Fantasycon in September. This should be a fun launch with Ally, Gary and Vinny all attending.

Note To Authors : My book publishing schedule is now full until at least 2010 so I am currently not able to take on any further titles at the moment. Thank you for all your stories so far and I look forward to reading more of them when I open for submissions again at a later date.

I am however still open to submissions for the eZine and eBook sections, if you want to get some free exposure for your work in the meantime.

Other News

Estronomicon : Sorry for the long delay getting the eZine back on track this year but it's been an insane few months!

The Fiction Special issue is now available to download.

I hope to get back to the regular issues on a quarterly basis soon. Thanks for your continued patience.

Health Issues : I had a nasty turn recently and have been advised to take things easy for a while. Which means that my current backlog of work will have to wait I'm afraid. Although I still have to meet certain deadlines with the books for the Welsh event next month, everything else will have to go on-hold in the meantime.

Welsh SF Conference : Don't forget that this event will be held on June 21st 2008 at the University of Glamorgan, Trefforest. Please come along and support the authors if you are able to, thanks. Entry fee will be £5. What a bargain!

We have a good lineup for you including talks by Tim Lebbon, Rhys Hughes, Steve Lockley, Terry Cooper, Catherine Fisher, Steve Volk, Jasper Fforde, Philp Gross and others.

SD will be there trying to flog its wares to as many innocent bystanders as possible, so beware! Pendragon Press is also likely to be lurking in the shadows somewhere nearby.

Fore more details see the event page here or download the timetable PDF here : WelshSF2008.pdf

More Free SD eBooks : There are several new PDF books in progress, including the Dark Reign anthology. The first to be released is Against The Wall by Mark Howard Jones, available to download now. Keep watching for more titles over the coming months.

I am also pleased to announce that Neil Davies has agreed to let SD publish his full-length Welcome Home novel as a free eBook. This will allow you to sample his longer work and will set the scene for his future paperback, Raised In Evil.

Oh, it seems that writing is in the blood for this family as Neil's brother Colin P. Davies has just had his first collection, Tall Tales on the Iron Horse, published by Bewildering Press

I've also recently heard from author Steve Karmazenuk that his book The Unearthing is now available as a free eBook download - A massive alien artifact is discovered beneath the desert outside of Laguna, New Mexico. Before its existence can be concealed, the object unearths itself and news of the discovery is leaked to the international media. The official website is at : http://theunearthing.blogspot.com

Good News : I am pleased to announce that Pumpkin Night, a short story by Gary McMahon which first appeared in the Halloween issue of Estronomicon, has been selected for the next volume of Best New Horror. It is indeed an honour for any writer to have their work featured in this fine annual collection, edited as always by that living legend Stephen Jones!

As usual all feedback, comments, ideas and suggestions are welcome so please feel free to contact me anytime if you have something to say. Cheers.
